Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Launceston is during the summer months, from December to February, when the weather is warm and ideal for outdoor activities. This is also when a lot of popular festivals take place, such as Festivale, a three-day celebration featuring food, drink, and entertainment. Spring, September to November, is also an optimal time to visit, with blooming gardens, mild temperatures, and prime lobster season at the fore. It’s also a great time for seeing wildlife, from baby animal sightings to whale-watching. Autumn offers beautiful foliage, especially in nearby valleys and parks, and the harvest season, making this a great time for vineyard visits and winery tours. Winter is cooler but quieter, making it a good option for those seeking fewer crowds. Early in the season is still great for hiking and, best of all, comes with a unique chance to see the Southern Lights.
