The Weather in Santorini

Santorini’s lovely Mediterranean climate means hot, dry summers and mild winters. This makes it the perfect destination for year-round travel. Here is what you can expect from the four main seasons on the island.

Spring (March to May)

You can expect warm and sunny days in spring, with occasional wind and rain. It’s a great time to beat the summer crowds and snap up a travel deal. Temperature-wise, you can expect highs of 63°F in March, 64°F by April, and 72°F by May. By late May, resorts will fill up in time for the peak season.

Summer (June to August)

From June onwards, it’s the high season in Santorini. Expect perfect beach and pool weather, with highs of 84°F or more. July and August are the busiest months; around this time, airfare is at its most expensive, while hotels and restaurants are at their most crowded.

Fall (September to November)

September is still warm, with highs of 79°F, making this a great month to travel. While the island cools down by October (72°F) and November (64°F), there’s still lots to see and do. So if you’re looking to find a good deal and avoid the crowds, fall is the best time to visit Santorini.

Winter (December to February)

The colder season can be chilly, but it rarely gets below 49°F, making it mild compared to other European winter destinations. Although some days may be cloudy and overcast, the views are still worth the long flight. It’s also the low season, making it the cheapest time to travel.

Take a break from the beach or poolside and head to one of these amazing events or festivals to soak up some of Santorini’s culture.

Orthodox Easter (April)

Easter is the most important public event in Greece and is celebrated everywhere in the country. In Santorini, traditions include the gunpowder war of Milos, the sinking of the Epitaph in the sea, and Pyrgos village lit up by candlelight.

Open Air Cinema Kamari (May to October)

Santorini’s open-air cinema invites guests to enjoy some late-night entertainment throughout the summer. It’s the perfect post-dinner activity, and movies are screened in English with Greek subtitles. Tickets are €8 ($9 USD).

Santorini Jazz Festival (July)

The annual Jazz Festival takes place in July, attracting jazz fans from around the country (and the world) with both Greek and international jazz musicians. Head to the beachside in Kamari to enjoy the entertainment.

Aegean Regatta 2022

The Aegean Regatta is Greece’s biggest open sea sailing event and passes right through the scenic Caldera of Santorini. The ocean transforms from July 8th to 16th, and boats compete in multiple offshore races.
